Maruti Suzuki IGNIS -What is the fuss about?

Launch of an entirely new product especially from a brand like Maruti Suzuki always creates a stir in the market. The Ignis, the latest offering from their stable has got everyone’s attention for obvious reasons. It looks very modern and stylish. There are no test drive vehicles given by the company yet, hence you can only see it on display as of now. Let me walk you through what the Ignis has to offer and what it is like on the inside.

Price: First things first. The Ignis is priced between 4.82 lakhs to 7.17 lakh ex-showroom price for the petrol version. Whereas the diesel will cost you from 6.72 lakh to 8.35 lakhs ex-showroom. Yes you read that right! it is by no means a budget car. These prices don’t even include the registration and insurance prices. It is meant to be a lifestyle product by Maruti Suzuki, that is why it is sold under NEXA. I was surprised to see the pricing though. The diesel top end variant costs a whooping 9.60 Lakh on road, Mumbai.

Engine, Transmission, Performance : Ignis gets a 1.2 L petrol (VVT) engine good for 82 BHP power and 113 NM of torque which should be quite peppy and powerful enough for its size. The diesel variants get a 1.2 L (DDiS) diesel engine that produces 74 BHP and 190 NM of torque. The power and torque figures are good enough to give decent acceleration and performance. On paper, it looks like the Ignis will be a pretty fun-to-drive little hatch. Both the fuel variants get an option of manual transmission or an automatic.

Fuel Efficiency : The claimed fuel efficiency figures are 20 kmpl for petrol and 26.8 kmpl for the diesel powerhouse.

Features : NEXA means the Ignis is supposed to be a premium class product. Now, we can see ‘premium’ in the pricing clearly but the feature list is also quite premium here. The top end variant get those signature LED DRLs and projector headlamps, puddle lamps, a touch screen media interface with Android and Apple Car play, Navigation, Voice command, Climate control, Reverse camera etc

Lower variants get Alloy wheels, 6 speakers, Push start, Electrically folding ORVMs, rear parking sensors, rear defogger and wiper, steering mounted audio controls,Remote key-less entry, Electrically adjustable ORVMs, Power windows, Luggage lamp. It sure is feature packed little car.

Safety : The Ignis gets ABS with EBD and Dual front Airbags on all the variants along with seat belt pre-tensioners and ISOFIX child seat anchorages.
